The Odessa Village Board postponed resolutions to begin dissolving the village government after increased interest from residents in running for office. Mayor Gerry Messmer, who will not seek re-election, had warned of dissolution if vacancies remained unfilled in the March election.
At Monday’s meeting, half of the dozen attendees expressed interest in running for mayor or trustee positions. One resident confirmed plans to run for mayor, prompting the board to wait until the February nomination period concludes before taking further action.
Messmer expressed optimism about the turnout, noting, “It’s looking pretty good.”
