A Newark man is facing multiple charges after allegedly violating a court-issued Stay Away Order of Protection in a prolonged domestic incident, according to the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office.
Jerard I. Hughson, 64, of W. Sherman Ave, was arrested on Thursday afternoon following an investigation into alleged violations spanning several weeks in March. Authorities say Hughson used his 21-year-old son to relay messages to his wife, despite being prohibited from contacting her under an order issued by the Galen Town Court.
Investigators further allege that Hughson tracked down his wife’s vehicle while she was volunteering at a local fire department, leaving handwritten notes on her windshield in an attempt to make direct contact. The reported incidents began on March 4 and continued until March 13, when police were called to intervene.
Hughson was taken into custody and transported to the Wayne County Jail, where he was held for Centralized Arraignment Processing. He has been charged with stalking in the fourth degree, harassment in the second degree, and criminal contempt in the second degree.
