Canandaigua police recover stolen property, identify suspects in burglary spree

Police have identified two juvenile suspects in connection with a string of burglaries that targeted garages and sheds in the Wood Street and Gorham Street areas last month.

On February 20, at approximately 12:06 p.m., the City of Canandaigua Police Department received reports of multiple break-ins. An investigation revealed that at least six properties had been burglarized, with several stolen items later appearing for sale online.

Officers conducted a controlled purchase of the stolen goods, leading to the identification of two 16-year-old suspects—one from Canandaigua and the other from the Town of Geneva. Both were issued appearance tickets and referred to Ontario County Probation.

During the investigation, authorities recovered additional stolen items that had not yet been reported missing. While some owners have been identified and notified, police are still seeking the rightful owners of several items, including a Black and Decker Saw, a Central Machinery Tabletop Drill Press, a Callaway 300 Range Finder, and other golf equipment.

Residents missing property or with additional information are urged to contact Detective Liberty at [email protected] or 585-337-2107.

The Canandaigua Police Department received assistance in the investigation from the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office, Geneva Police Department, and Wayne County Sheriff’s Office.
