The U.S. Department of Education has warned Cornell University and 59 other institutions that they must take stronger action to protect Jewish students from antisemitic harassment or face enforcement measures. The schools, under investigation for Title VI violations, risk losing federal funding if they fail to ensure equal access to education.
Education Secretary Linda McMahon criticized universities for not doing enough to address rising antisemitism. The department has launched targeted investigations into five schools and is monitoring 55 others. Last week, Columbia University lost $400 million in federal funding due to inaction.
The Office for Civil Rights has prioritized resolving antisemitism-related complaints as part of a broader federal effort to combat discrimination on college campuses.
