Wolcott man sentenced for firearm theft

A Wayne County man is headed to prison after sentencing for a firearm theft.

Lucas Burke, 23, of Wolcott was sentenced to 2½ years in federal prison for stealing a rifle from Eastside Traders, a federally licensed firearms dealer in Wayne County. The theft occurred on October 7, 2023, when Burke broke a window to enter the building. He attempted to steal two additional firearms but failed.

The case was prosecuted under Project Safe Neighborhoods, a federal initiative targeting violent crime. The Wayne County sheriff’s office and ATF conducted the investigation. U.S. District Judge Charles Siragusa handed down the sentence.

Burke’s conviction underscores federal efforts to crack down on firearm-related crimes.
