Geneva’s long-planned marina project may be scrapped after bids came in nearly $4 million over budget. The Finger Lakes Times reports the city received bids exceeding $7.6 million, while available funds total just $3.3 million. Officials say bonding additional funds would be too costly for taxpayers.
The project, originally estimated at $4 million in 2022, includes an 80-slip dock system, pier extension, and boater services. Rising costs and past delays have worsened the financial strain. Some officials suggest seeking additional grants or private partnerships, but the deadline to use existing funding is tight.
City leaders will continue discussions, but without new funding, the marina may remain “dead in the water.”
