A 70-year-old man was hospitalized with minor injuries after crashing his car into a utility pole early Sunday morning in the Town of Rose, according to the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies responded to a one-car crash on Route 414 near Lyman Road at approximately 3:14 a.m. They determined that the driver, Melvin Vandyke, had veered off the roadway before striking a utility pole and coming to a stop in the front yard of a residence on the east side of Route 414.
Authorities said Vandyke was driving with a suspended license at the time of the crash and was issued a traffic ticket for the violation.
Emergency responders, including Wayne County Ambulance, EMTs, North Rose Fire, and Clyde Fire, assisted at the scene. Vandyke was transported to Newark Wayne Community Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
