South Seneca High School brings ‘The Wizard of Oz’ to life on stage

The South Seneca Falcon Players are preparing to transport audiences down the Yellow Brick Road with their production of The Wizard of Oz. The beloved musical will be performed at the South Seneca High School Auditorium on March 21 and 22 at 7:30 p.m. and March 23 at 2:00 p.m.

The production features students from grades 6-12, with younger performers from South Seneca Elementary School taking on the roles of Munchkins. The Falcon Players will present the Royal Shakespeare Company’s adaptation, which closely follows the 1939 film starring Judy Garland.

The musical tells the story of Dorothy Gale, played by Elana Micheal, who is swept away to the magical Land of Oz during a cyclone. Along the way, she befriends the Scarecrow (Julia Rogers), the Tin Man (Makaila McLaughlin), and the Cowardly Lion (Brooke Jennings) as they journey to meet the Wizard (Bella Cotto) in hopes of returning Dorothy home. Kelsi Stannard takes on the role of the Wicked Witch of the West, while Sophia Jennings portrays Glinda, the Good Witch.

South Seneca’s production is led by director Tina Coville-Bauder, with choreography by Chad Eastman and vocal direction by Madelyn Houck. Jared Pratt serves as technical director, and costumes are designed by Nicole Nelson.

Tickets are available at the door for $10 for general admission and $9 for students and senior citizens. Doors open 30 minutes before each performance.
