FLCC men’s volleyball dominates FLCC Invite, finishing 5-1

The Finger Lakes Community College men’s volleyball team delivered an impressive performance at the annual FLCC Invite, finishing with a 5-1 record over two days. The Lakers defeated Roxbury Community College, Monroe University – Bronx, and Nassau Community College, showcasing resilience, strong leadership, and balanced play.

After going 2-1 on the first day, including a narrow five-set loss to Nassau, the Lakers bounced back on Sunday to sweep all three matches, including a revenge win over Nassau.

Evan Lukasiewicz (Webster, N.Y./Webster Schroeder) led the charge throughout the weekend, racking up 17 kills in the opening win over Roxbury and adding 13 kills in the same match. He remained consistent across all matches, including a 10-kill performance in the rematch victory over Nassau and 9 kills in a hard-fought 3-1 win over Monroe.

Jack Donovan (Oswego, N.Y./Oswego) provided key offensive support with 17 kills against Roxbury, while Bryce Nickson (Penfield, N.Y./Penfield) ran the offense with 30 assists and added 9 digs and 3 aces in the opening match. Cole Thomas (Fayetteville, N.Y./Chittenango) proved vital as well, tallying a weekend-high 40 assists in the final match against Roxbury and consistently directing the Lakers’ attack.

The Lakers capped the weekend by defeating Roxbury 3-1, with Aaron Hennessy (Geneva, N.Y./Geneva) leading the offense with 11 kills. Dominick Alvarado (York, Pa./Northeastern), Lukasiewicz, and Donovan combined for 28 kills, with the Lakers hitting .419 in the final match.

Defensively, Grant Walker (Boston, N.Y./Eden) anchored the back line, recording double-digit digs in multiple matches. Bryce Nickson and Lukasiewicz also provided defensive stability with key digs throughout the invite.

With the successful weekend, FLCC improves to 9-6 on the season. The Lakers now head into a well-deserved break before returning to action on March 1 in a tripleheader against UB Club, SU Club, and RIT Club. These scrimmages mark the team’s final home outings before hosting the NJCAA Men’s National Volleyball Invitational on the weekend of April 4.
