The Finger Lakes Community College women’s basketball team secured a hard-fought 62-55 victory over Genesee Community College last Wednesday night, propelled by a record-breaking defensive effort from Jazzmyn Lewis.
Lewis, a Waterloo native, delivered a dominant all-around performance, finishing with 24 points, 11 rebounds, 11 steals, and 5 assists. In doing so, she cemented her place in FLCC history, becoming the program’s all-time steals leader with 120 and counting.
“It’s an amazing feat for Jazz to break a two-year career record in just sixteen games,” said FLCC head coach Maureen Loyal. “With nine games left in our season, she still has time to build on that number. She amazes me with how she tracks the ball and gains possession so quickly. She has great instincts and athleticism to go after the ball and comes away with it time after time.”
Lewis’ defensive prowess has been a cornerstone of FLCC’s success this season. Loyal credited not only Lewis’ individual ability but also the team’s overall defensive strength.
“Our team defense, I think, is one of the best around, and Jazzmyn is a central component of that success,” she said.
