Emergency personnel from the Alton Fire Company, Sodus Point Fire Department, and Wayne County Sheriff’s Office participated in ice water rescue training to improve their ability to respond to emergencies on frozen waterways.
The session focused on specialized techniques and equipment needed for safe rescues in icy conditions, where exposure to cold water can quickly become life-threatening. Officials stress the importance of preparedness as winter conditions persist.
Residents are urged to stay cautious near frozen lakes and ponds and call 911 in case of emergencies.
