Firefighters in Clyde and Ontario clear hydrants, urge residents to help

Volunteer firefighters in Clyde and Ontario are working to ensure fire hydrants remain accessible as heavy snowfall continues to bury them across the region.

In Clyde, members of the Clyde-Galen Fire District took time Wednesday afternoon to clear all village hydrants, ensuring that crews can quickly establish a water supply in the event of a fire. Officials reported that over 70% of the hydrants had already been cleared by homeowners, thanking residents for their efforts.

Meanwhile, in Ontario, firefighters have spent the past two days digging out buried hydrants and are calling on the community for help. The Ontario Fire Company emphasized that every second counts in an emergency, and having hydrants cleared can make a crucial difference in response times.

Local businesses also stepped in to assist. A.P. Enterprises Property Services and Harding Enterprises provided equipment to help firefighters reach more hydrants.

Both fire departments are reminding residents to clear hydrants near their homes, stressing that community efforts can play a vital role in ensuring public safety.
