Newark mayor apologizes for cemetery cleanup controversy

  • / Updated:
  • Staff Report

Newark Mayor Jonathan Taylor apologized at a meeting this week for a cemetery cleanup last November that removed more than seasonal decorations, sparking community outrage.

However, an investigation into potential wrongdoing by public works employees was deemed inconclusive, with no criminal charges filed.

Taylor emphasized there was no ill intent but acknowledged miscommunication between staff and management.

The village is now reviewing cemetery policies to prevent future issues.
