Auburn to vote on $22K sewer accident settlement

  • Staff Report

The Auburn City Council will vote Thursday on a $22,115.83 settlement with the school district over a sewer line backup at Seward Elementary School last year. The February 2024 incident was caused by a city project on Metcalf Drive, leading to extensive cleanup costs.

Rather than pursue litigation, both parties agreed to settle, with the district releasing the city from liability. Officials say the cleanup required professional services beyond what school staff could handle. The district expressed gratitude for the city’s cooperation in resolving the matter.

If approved, the settlement will finalize the issue, ensuring no further legal action.
