President Donald J. Trump has declared a state of emergency in Kentucky following severe storms, straight-line winds, flooding, and landslides that began on February 14. The declaration, announced on February 16, authorizes federal assistance to support state and local response efforts.
The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) will coordinate disaster relief efforts to help alleviate hardship for residents affected by the emergency. Under the declaration, FEMA is authorized to mobilize resources and provide direct federal assistance, with the federal government covering 75 percent of emergency protective measures.
The emergency declaration applies to all 120 counties in Kentucky. FEMA will deploy equipment and personnel to help mitigate damage, protect public safety, and prevent further catastrophe. Jeremy Slinker has been appointed to oversee federal recovery operations in the affected areas.
