  • Staff Report

A routine traffic stop for an expired inspection led to the arrest of an Auburn man on felony drug charges early Sunday morning.

At approximately 12:12 a.m. on February 16, officers from the Auburn Police Department stopped a vehicle near Perrine Street and Rock Avenue. The driver, identified as Darrel D. Love, 45, of Auburn, was the sole occupant of the vehicle.

During the stop, officers observed Love discard a plastic bag out of the passenger-side window. Upon inspection, the bag was found to contain a substance later identified as cocaine hydrochloride (powder cocaine). Love was taken into custody, and a search revealed that he was also in possession of a large sum of cash.

Love was charged with third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance (B felony), fourth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance (C felony), and an uninspected motor vehicle violation. He was processed and released with an appearance ticket.
