President Donald Trump moved to cancel New York City’s congestion pricing plan, putting billions in mass transit funding at risk. The decision, executed by U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy, revoked federal approval for the tolls, sparking lawsuits from Gov. Kathy Hochul and transit advocates.
The plan, which began in January, charged drivers entering Manhattan below 60th Street, generating revenue for transit improvements. Supporters argue it reduced traffic and improved bus service. Trump, however, called it unfair to working-class Americans.
New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy and other critics welcomed the decision, while business and transit groups condemned it. Legal battles are now underway as officials fight to reinstate the program.
