Schumer, Gillibrand slam potential cuts to 9/11 health program

Senators Chuck Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand are raising concerns over reports that the Trump administration may lay off staff from the World Trade Center Health Program.

The senators emphasized their efforts to secure bipartisan support and $1.7 billion in funding for the program, which provides medical care for 9/11 responders. They warned that staffing cuts would break the nation’s commitment to those suffering from 9/11-related health issues.

Schumer and Gillibrand demanded transparency from the administration, calling any reduction in support for first responders unacceptable.
