  • Staff Report

An Auburn man was arrested Thursday night after fleeing from a traffic stop and being found in possession of crack cocaine and drug paraphernalia, according to police.

At approximately 9:02 p.m., an officer on patrol in the area of Seymour Street observed a vehicle driving without its headlights or taillights illuminated, a violation of New York State vehicle law. When the officer initiated a traffic stop, the driver pulled into a driveway before exiting the vehicle and fleeing on foot.

After a brief chase and struggle, the officer detained the suspect, later identified as 35-year-old Nathan T. Burt of Auburn. A search revealed Burt was in possession of crack cocaine, a digital scale, and other drug paraphernalia. He was also found to be operating the vehicle with a suspended Class D permit.

Burt was taken into custody and transported to Auburn Police Department headquarters before being transferred to Cayuga County Jail for arraignment. He faces multiple charges, including two counts of third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, criminal use of drug paraphernalia, resisting arrest, obstruction of governmental administration, and aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle. He was also issued several traffic tickets.
