Wisconsin Supreme Court race set to test political climate

Wisconsin voters will decide a crucial state Supreme Court race on April 1, a contest that could shift the ideological balance of the court. The election, the first major battleground test since the 2024 presidential race, has drawn millions in donations from both parties, with abortion rights, union laws, and congressional maps at stake.

Liberal candidate Susan Crawford, a judge from Madison, faces conservative Brad Schimel, a former Republican attorney general. The race follows the 2023 election that gave liberals control of the court for the first time in 15 years. Major donors, including George Soros and Elizabeth Uihlein, have fueled intense spending on both sides.

With abortion laws and gerrymandering challenges on the line, both candidates are emphasizing their positions on key issues. Republicans see Schimel as a stronger contender than their 2023 nominee, hoping to regain influence on the court.
