A Sempronius man is in custody after allegedly shooting and killing his girlfriend’s pet pig during a domestic dispute, according to the Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office.

Norman D. Dewitt, 28, was arrested on February 12 and charged with multiple misdemeanors, including animal cruelty under New York State Agriculture and Markets Law, endangering the welfare of a child, and criminal tampering.

Deputies responded to a residence in the Town of Sempronius on February 5 at 11:16 a.m. after receiving a report of a domestic incident. Upon investigation, authorities determined that Dewitt had removed security cameras from the home before shooting the pig while a 15-year-old girl was present.

Dewitt was arraigned in CAP Court and is being held at the Cayuga County Jail on $10,000 cash bail or a $20,000 bond. He is scheduled to appear in the Town of Sempronius Court on February 19 at 6:00 p.m.

Authorities encourage anyone with information about the incident to contact the Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office at 315-253-1222 or submit anonymous tips through the SaferWatch app.
