UPDATE: Two-car crash turns to six-car pileup due to snow in Wayne County

The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office has released new details about the multi-car crash that shut down Route 414 in the Town of Galen on Monday afternoon.

Authorities say the chain-reaction collision started as a two-car crash before quickly escalating into a six-car pileup as snow severely reduced visibility. The crash, which occurred around 1 p.m., blocked the roadway and forced a temporary closure.

One person, identified as 61-year-old Todd A. Rudy of Clyde, was transported by ambulance to Strong Memorial Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. No other injuries were reported.

Wayne County Sheriff’s deputies were assisted at the scene by Wayne County EMS, the Clyde Fire Department, the Rose Fire Department, and several local tow companies that helped clear the wreckage.

Officials continue to urge drivers to exercise caution during winter weather conditions, as visibility can quickly deteriorate and lead to dangerous road conditions.
