Auburn woman arrested for felony DWI following traffic stop

A routine patrol by a Cayuga County Sheriff’s Deputy led to the arrest of an Auburn resident on multiple charges, including a felony-level DWI.

On January 30, just before 5 p.m., a deputy on patrol near Arterial West in Auburn observed a vehicle violating traffic laws. The vehicle was stopped near John Street and Genesee Street, where the deputy encountered 45-year-old Kerry L. Hofmann, the driver and sole occupant.

Hofmann exhibited signs of intoxication, prompting field sobriety tests. Following these tests, she was arrested and transported to the Public Safety Building for processing. She now faces several charges, including driving while intoxicated with a previous conviction within the last decade, an E felony under New York Vehicle and Traffic Law 1192(3). Additional charges include operating a vehicle with a suspended registration and aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle in the third degree.

Hofmann appeared in court the following morning at CAP Court and was released on her own recognizance.

The Sheriff’s Office is urging anyone with information related to the incident to reach out via phone or their anonymous tip service.
