Homer schools may shift to virtual learning amid staff shortages

The Homer Central School District warned families of potential virtual learning days due to staffing shortages caused by illness. A memo sent Monday noted transportation staff absences nearly led to a school closure that day.

Students in grades 3-12 will take home Chromebooks nightly, while younger students will receive work packets. Virtual learning days would cancel practices and modified sports, though varsity events will proceed. Principals will share further details if a closure is announced.

Respiratory illnesses have prompted other districts nationwide to switch to virtual learning, though the exact illness affecting Homer staff is currently unknown.
