Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand criticized President Donald Trump’s new tariffs on imports from Canada, Mexico, and China, warning they will increase prices for American consumers. Speaking on “Mornings On 1,” Gillibrand argued the 25% tariffs, intended to address border issues, will drive up costs on everyday goods like food and housing.
Gillibrand highlighted specific impacts, including higher prices for Super Bowl staples like avocados and beer, and rising costs for construction materials such as lumber. She also noted the disruption to upstate New York industries reliant on Canadian imports.
Despite the difficulty of opposing Trump’s policies as a minority party, Gillibrand assured that Democrats will continue to challenge his economic decisions.
