President Donald Trump signed an executive order eliminating Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) programs within the Department of Defense and Homeland Security, citing concerns over meritocracy and unit cohesion. The order bans race- and sex-based preferences in hiring and education.
The Pentagon must review past DEI initiatives and report findings within 90 days. Service academies must align curricula with the directive, reinforcing the idea that America’s founding principles are a force for good. Military institutions are also prohibited from promoting “divisive concepts” or gender ideology.
Defense and Homeland Security officials must issue implementation guidance within 30 days, with a full progress report due in six months. The order is expected to draw both support and legal challenges.
