Canandaigua duo face charges in court over serious pit bull attack

Casey Murphy and Madison Herendeen, former owners of a pit bull involved in an August 29 attack in Canandaigua, are due in City Court Wednesday.

They face assault and reckless endangerment charges after the unleashed dog injured Ryan VanGrol and his 10-year-old son, Wren, leaving the father with severe nerve damage.

The dog, euthanized after the attack, had also bitten a child in a prior incident, prompting court-ordered safety measures that were reportedly ignored.

Pretrial motions, including a Huntley hearing, will be addressed during the session.
