Community members from across the Little Finger Lakes region will gather next month to shape the future of their unique corner of New York State.
The Little Lakes Community Center will host a workshop titled “Defining Identity, Collaboration, and Growth in the Little Finger Lakes Region” on February 22 from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at its Hemlock facility. The event will bring together farmers, historians, artisans, business owners, and other stakeholders to foster collaboration, explore regional branding, and plan for sustainable growth.
The region, encompassing Honeoye, Canadice, Hemlock, and Conesus lakes, is distinct from the larger Finger Lakes, with an agricultural focus on sustainable, small-scale farming. This vibrant farm-to-table economy thrives despite the lack of large-scale vineyards seen in other Finger Lakes areas.
Organizers hope to create a cohesive identity for the region, which currently spans multiple counties, towns, and villages without a central unifying focus. “This workshop is an important step in creating a unified identity for the Little Finger Lakes Region,” said Jerry Elman, president of the Little Lakes Community Center. “We want to bring people together to celebrate what makes this region special while developing practical steps to build a stronger, more connected community.”
Attendees will reflect on priorities identified at a 2024 gathering of community leaders at Lagom Landing in Dansville, where sustainable farming, resource sharing, and collaboration were emphasized. Interactive discussions and planning sessions at the workshop will focus on regional strengths and actionable steps for long-term success.
The workshop is free, but registration is required due to limited space. To register, email Jerry Elman at [email protected].
