Eddie Lampkin Jr.’s career-high 23 rebounds weren’t enough for Syracuse (9-11, 3-6 ACC) to overcome Pittsburgh (13-6, 4-4 ACC) in a 77-73 loss on Sunday afternoon at the JMA Wireless Dome. Lampkin added 10 points for his eighth double-double of the season, while J.J. Starling led Syracuse with 14 points.
Syracuse started strong, racing to a 15-7 lead in the first three minutes after hitting five consecutive shots. Contributions from multiple players, including Elijah Moore’s 3-pointer, helped the Orange take a narrow 33-32 halftime lead. Lampkin dominated the boards early, grabbing 12 rebounds before the break.
The second half remained tight until Pittsburgh broke a 45-45 tie with a decisive 8-0 run midway through the period. Syracuse clawed back within three points with 2:48 remaining after Lucas Taylor’s free throws, but a clutch 3-pointer by Zack Austin extended the Panthers’ lead. Despite cutting the deficit to two points twice in the final 20 seconds, Pittsburgh sealed the game with four late free throws.
Lampkin’s rebounding effort marked the first 23-rebound game for a Syracuse player since 1990, with eight offensive and 15 defensive boards.
