A house fire caused by a space heater destroyed a home on West Seneca Road in Trumansburg early Wednesday.
Both residents escaped with minor burns, but at least one cat was lost. Firefighters battled the blaze for six hours and later returned to extinguish a rekindled fire in the collapsed structure.
The Trumansburg Fire Department urged caution when heating homes during cold weather, advising against fuel-burning appliances indoors and ensuring clearance around heaters.
