Democratic AGs oppose DOJ immigration directive

Democratic attorneys general from 12 states have pledged to challenge a Trump administration directive requiring local law enforcement to aid in federal immigration crackdowns. They argue the Constitution prohibits the federal government from forcing states to enforce federal laws.

The DOJ memo threatens charges against officials who shield undocumented immigrants and lawsuits against sanctuary cities. The attorneys general condemned these threats, vowing to continue enforcing state laws while opposing Trump’s immigration agenda.

In a related move, a federal judge blocked Trump’s executive order to end birthright citizenship, calling it unconstitutional under the 14th Amendment. Legal battles over immigration policies are set to intensify.
