Ontario County: Where are the warming stations? Officials outline places where residents can keep warm

Ontario County officials are urging residents to take precautions as an arctic air mass is forecast to bring dangerously low temperatures early next week. To ensure community safety, several warming centers have been designated throughout the county.

Residents needing a safe and heated space can visit the following locations:

  • Victor Farmington Library
  • Phelps Library and STEAM Lab Makerspace
  • Wood Library, Canandaigua
  • Hydrant Hose Company No. 1, Geneva (meeting room at 79 Geneva Street)

Officials advise contacting each location directly to confirm hours of operation.

With the expected frigid conditions, authorities shared safety tips to prevent cold-related injuries such as frostbite and hypothermia. They recommend dressing in layers, limiting outdoor exposure, and checking on vulnerable individuals, including seniors and those with medical conditions. Additionally, residents are cautioned against using stoves or ovens for heating and urged to exercise care when using space heaters.

The warming centers aim to provide relief to those who may not have adequate heating during this extreme cold snap. Authorities encourage anyone in need of a warm space to utilize these resources and to prioritize safety during this weather event.
