Livingston County has strengthened its commitment to community development by allocating $110,000 in its 2025 budget to support the OWWL Library System, which serves Ontario, Wayne, Wyoming, and Livingston Counties.
The funding will directly enhance services at eight member libraries located in Avon, Caledonia, Dansville, Geneseo, Lima, Livonia, Mount Morris, and Nunda. These libraries are part of the 42-branch OWWL Library System, which provides essential resources to more than 20,000 cardholders in Livingston County.
“The county is committed to helping ensure that every resident has access to the essential resources and services our local libraries provide,” said Livingston County Board Chair David LeFeber. “As spaces that foster community engagement and lifelong learning for all, we’re proud to continue our ongoing support of these invaluable public resources.”
OWWL Library System Executive Director Ron Kirsop emphasized that the funding will bolster libraries’ ability to meet evolving needs, including expanding digital resources, increasing Wi-Fi access, and upgrading workstations. It will also help improve educational and workforce development programs such as early literacy initiatives, youth programming, and digital skills training for adults.
“Perhaps most importantly, these funds will allow libraries to be more responsive to unique local needs,” Kirsop said, noting that the support will enable libraries to develop tailored collections, outreach services, and new programs based on community input.
To celebrate the role of libraries, the OWWL Library System launched a four-county library tour on January 1. Participants can collect a custom map at any OWWL Library and visit all libraries in a county to earn a special prize.
