The Steuben County Sheriff’s Office has announced the arrest of a Hornell woman accused of submitting fraudulent documents to the county’s Department of Social Services.
Diane Benesch, 64, was arrested on January 14 and charged with Offering a False Instrument for Filing in the First Degree, a Class E felony, and Petit Larceny. Authorities allege that in August 2024, Benesch knowingly submitted false documents with the intent to defraud.
Benesch was issued an appearance ticket and is scheduled to appear in the Village of Bath Court at a later date.
The investigation involved the Steuben County Department of Social Services Fraud and Legal Affairs Unit, as well as the Steuben County District Attorney’s Office. Sheriff Jim Allard praised the collaboration of the agencies involved in the case.
