Supreme Court denies Trump’s bid to delay sentencing

The Supreme Court rejected Donald Trump’s request to delay sentencing in his New York hush money case, paving the way for a Friday sentencing. The 5-4 decision clears Judge Juan M. Merchan to proceed, though Trump won’t face jail time, fines, or probation.

Trump’s attorneys argued that the sentencing, linked to falsified business records over a $130,000 payment to Stormy Daniels, would disrupt his presidential transition. The court’s majority dismissed this, noting his appeal can continue after sentencing.

The decision follows Trump’s broader legal challenges, including cases tied to his presidency and election interference. The high court remains pivotal as Trump prepares to return to the White House.
