WEDNESDAY HS BASKETBALL REPORT: Waterloo boys hold off Mynderse in thriller; Lyons boys hand East Rochester first loss

It was another action-packed Wednesday night of Wayne-Finger Lakes high school hoops, with 15 games, including seven decided by 10 points or less.

The slate was highlighted by the Waterloo boys holding off Mynderse in a back-and-forth thriller and the Lyons boys edging East Rochester, handing them their first loss of the season. Meanwhile, on the girls’ side, Waterloo blew past Mynderse and Bloomfield grinded out a win against Penn Yan.

With 9.5 seconds left in regulation, Justin Knowlton made one of two free throws for the Tigers, giving the Blue Devils a chance to tie the game. However, Griffin Hilimire’s three-pointer bounced off the front of the rim, sealing the victory for Waterloo. Mynderse saw their four-game win streak end.

The Lions led 20-4 after eight minutes but the Bombers did not go away quietly as they outscored them 44-35 over the final three quarters. Lyons has recorded four straight wins following a three-game losing streak and East Rochester suffered their first defeat of the season, ending a streak of seven dominant victories, all by double digits.
