NWS: Finger Lakes faces blustery winds and persistent snow through midweek
The Finger Lakes region is in the grip of frigid temperatures, blustery winds, and persistent lake-effect snow showers, with conditions expected to continue through Thursday, according to forecasts from the National Weather Service and Finger Lakes Weather Center.

Throughout Tuesday, occasional snow showers and gusty northwest winds have created hazardous travel conditions across the region. High temperatures hovered around 23 degrees, while wind gusts reached up to 33 mph, causing areas of blowing snow and reduced visibility. Snow accumulations of 1 to 2 inches are expected by nightfall.
Tuesday night will bring continued snow showers and blowing snow, with gusts reaching up to 28 mph and lows dropping to around 16 degrees. Another 1 to 2 inches of snow is possible overnight.

On Wednesday, temperatures will struggle to climb above 18 degrees, with wind chills in the single digits. Occasional snow showers will persist throughout the day, accompanied by northwest winds gusting up to 30 mph. Snow accumulations are expected to remain under an inch, though blowing and drifting snow will continue to create hazardous conditions in open areas.
By Wednesday night, snow showers are likely to linger as temperatures dip to around 15 degrees. Gusty winds of up to 29 mph will maintain biting wind chills and occasional whiteout conditions in exposed areas.
Thursday may offer some improvement, with snow showers likely tapering off by the afternoon. Highs are expected to reach around 24 degrees, but gusty northwest winds—reaching up to 32 mph—will keep conditions feeling much colder.
Looking ahead to Friday, forecasters expect a brief reprieve, with mostly sunny skies and temperatures climbing to 26 degrees. However, the calm weather will be short-lived, as light snow chances return late Friday night into Saturday.
Officials are urging residents and travelers to remain cautious, as icy roads, low visibility, and strong winds are expected to persist through midweek.
