Residents across the Finger Lakes and Central New York can expect a wintry week ahead, with persistent snow showers, gusty winds, and below-average temperatures expected through Thursday before a brief warm-up by the weekend.
The National Weather Service forecasts scattered snow showers into the morning, with light accumulations of less than an inch. Today will remain cloudy and cold, with daytime highs barely reaching 22 degrees and northeast winds adding a biting chill.
Snow activity is expected to increase Monday night into Tuesday, with accumulation of up to an inch possible. Tuesday will see blustery northwest winds gusting up to 32 mph, along with additional snow showers and highs struggling to exceed 22 degrees. Wind chills will remain in the single digits throughout the day.
The wintry pattern will persist into midweek. Wednesday and Thursday are projected to bring the coldest temperatures of the week, with highs hovering around 18 degrees and lows dipping into the low teens. Persistent snow showers, driven by lake-effect patterns and cold northwest winds, are expected to deliver minor but consistent accumulations across the region.
Snowfall is expected to ease by Thursday night as high pressure briefly settles over the region. Friday is forecast to be partly sunny, offering a short-lived reprieve with temperatures climbing into the mid-20s.
However, snow chances are set to return over the weekend, with light snow showers possible Saturday and Sunday. Temperatures will trend slightly warmer, with highs near 30 degrees by Sunday.
Meteorologists caution that wind chills and breezy conditions will remain a concern throughout the week, particularly during overnight hours. Travelers are urged to exercise caution on roads and prepare for changing conditions.
