Attorney Doug Zamelis, representing Dixie Lemmon and Concerned Citizens of Seneca County, is pressing the Department of Environmental Conservation to address significant gaps in Seneca Meadows Inc.’s Draft Environmental Impact Statement, according to new reporting by The Finger Lakes Times.
Zamelis highlighted unresolved issues tied to odor violations, Local Law 3-2016, and the host community agreement.
SMI seeks approval to expand its landfill, extending operations until 2040. However, Local Law 3 mandates the landfill’s closure by 2025. Zamelis argues the DEIS must clarify how SMI plans to comply with this law and address ongoing odor problems impacting nearby communities.
The DEC is expected to decide on the DEIS’s completeness by Jan. 31, after which public comments and hearings will follow.
