The Seneca County Sheriff’s Office has announced the completion of several critical training programs by its officers, marking a continued commitment to professional development and public safety.
Correction Officer Caleb Mein was recognized for completing the Instructor Development Course, an intensive program designed to enhance instructional skills. The course equips participants with the tools to effectively research, plan, and communicate training content. Topics included setting instructional objectives, adult learning principles, communication skills, and methods for evaluating course effectiveness. Participants also gained hands-on experience by delivering several presentations.
In addition, Lieutenant Kierst successfully completed the Master Instructor Program, a prestigious certification awarded by the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services. Master Instructor certification ensures that high standards are upheld when training new instructors. To achieve this certification, candidates must complete rigorous requirements, including instructor development courses, evaluator workshops, and supervised teaching sessions. Lieutenant Kierst’s achievement underscores his leadership and dedication to the department’s training excellence.

The Sheriff’s Office also congratulated Investigator Jarrod Surine and Deputy Zachary Presher for completing the Crash Management Course training series. This comprehensive program, which includes Basic, Intermediate, Advanced, and Technical Crash Management courses, prepares officers to investigate and analyze accident scenes thoroughly. The training covers data preservation, collision calculations, diagramming, damage analysis, and speed determinations.
Sheriff Tim Thompson highlighted the importance of this specialized training, stating, “The many changes within the Sheriff’s Office this year revealed the need to send two members to this intense training program. Sadly, it is inevitable that we will deploy this training into the field. It is our commitment to the community to provide the best possible service on someone’s difficult day.”
These achievements reflect the Seneca County Sheriff’s Office’s ongoing commitment to excellence in training and public service. The department praised Officer Mein, Lieutenant Kierst, Investigator Surine, and Deputy Presher for their dedication to professional growth and readiness to serve the community.
