Teamwork saves life after critical injury in Auburn

A man who survived a life-threatening traumatic injury in early November returned this week to personally thank the first responders who saved his life. The incident, which required a coordinated multi-agency effort, highlighted the dedication and quick action of emergency crews in Auburn.

The response was initiated by Cayuga County 911, dispatching teams from Auburn City Ambulance, the Auburn Fire Department, the Auburn Police Department, and New York State Police. The patient, identified as Mike, suffered a rare and critical injury, making his survival and recovery even more remarkable.

In a statement on social media, Auburn City Ambulance shared the outcome of the call, emphasizing the rarity of such a recovery. “It is incredibly rare for someone suffering such a traumatic injury to not only survive, but also have the opportunity to meet and thank the team who helped save their life,” the statement said. “We’re thrilled to report that he is alive, recovering, and doing well.”

The reunion served as a poignant reminder of the importance of teamwork and the critical work that emergency responders do every day.

The lifesaving team included Paramedics P. Miller, B. Cuddy, and C. Spingler; EMT L. Brewer; Auburn Fire Department Firefighters/EMTs M. Evans and K. Donnelly; and Lieutenant P. Whelan.

“Moments like these remind us of the importance of teamwork and the lasting impact we have on our community,” the statement continued. “We’re grateful to serve and proud of our EMTs and paramedics who go above and beyond every day.”

The successful outcome of this call underscores the critical role of coordination between emergency services. The swift actions of the responding agencies ensured that Mike received timely, high-quality care that contributed to his survival and recovery.
