Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer announced $43.9 million in federal funding for JMA Wireless to advance 5G technology in Central New York. The funding, provided through the bipartisan CHIPS & Science Law, will support JMA’s 5G Open Radio Access Network (O-RAN) and upgrade manufacturing facilities.
JMA plans to invest an additional $30 million in private capital, creating up to 30 jobs with potential for more. Schumer said the initiative strengthens America’s 5G leadership and reduces reliance on foreign telecom companies. The investment will enhance high-speed network capacity and coverage across New York and the U.S.
Syracuse Mayor Ben Walsh praised JMA’s role in driving the city’s tech growth, calling it key to the Syracuse Surge strategy for inclusive economic development.
