Juan Soto made his free agency decision on Sunday night and decided to stay in New York, but not with the Yankees.
The superstar outfielder signed a 15-year, $765 million contract with the Mets, making it the largest deal in sports history, according to ESPN’s Jeff Passan.
The contract includes no deferred payments and escalators that could push its total value past $800 million.
Jon Heyman of the New York Post reported that the Yankees offered Soto a 16-year, $760 million contract.
Soto, 26, slashed .288/.419/.569 in his only season with the Yankees, smacking a career-high 41 home runs. He finished second in the majors in on-base percentage to teammate Aaron Judge, fourth in slugging, third in OPS, third in wRC+, and fourth in fWAR.
