Seneca Falls kicks off holiday season with It’s a Wonderful Life Festival next week

The holiday spirit will come alive in Seneca Falls as the town launches its annual It’s a Wonderful Life Festival, celebrating the enduring legacy of the beloved Frank Capra film. The festival, running from December 13 to December 15, will open with a Ribbon Cutting and Opening Ceremony at 9:00 a.m. on Friday, December 13.

This year’s festivities begin with a heartwarming announcement: the festival committee will donate $8,000 to local charities, echoing the symbolic amount lost by Uncle Billy in the movie. The beneficiaries include the Seneca County House of Concern, Community Action Program, Seneca Falls Backpack Program, Inc., and Trevor’s Gift.

The Ruth Dakin Bailey It’s A Wonderful Life Grand Marshal Award will be posthumously presented to Dallyn Jenkins of the Beverly Animal Shelter for her unwavering dedication to animal welfare. The award will be accepted by board members of the shelter and presented by Cari and Jeff Loop, relatives of Virginia Patton Moss, who portrayed Ruth Dakin Bailey in the film. Following the ceremony, Cari and Jeff will officially cut the ribbon, signaling the start of the weekend’s events.

Friday evening will feature the It’s a Wonderful Bonfire, a community favorite complete with:

  • A visit from Santa Claus and his reindeer, offering a magical experience for families.
  • Caroling by Calvary Chapel Worship Singers, spreading festive joy.
  • Food and refreshments from Harry’s Hots, including hotdogs and hot chocolate.

A roaring bonfire, made extra special by the support of Hanggi’s Christmas Tree Farm, will cap the evening with warmth and holiday reflection.

The festival will continue through the weekend with themed activities, live performances, and opportunities to explore Seneca Falls, the inspiration for the fictional Bedford Falls. Visitors can expect nostalgia, charm, and the timeless message of hope and kindness from the classic film.
