Wayne County woman arrested for welfare fraud following investigation

A Red Creek woman was arrested Thursday following an investigation into allegations of welfare fraud in the Town of Lyons, the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office reported.

Marissa M. Ramos, 42, was charged with grand larceny in the third degree, welfare fraud in the third degree, and offering a false instrument in the first degree. Authorities allege Ramos failed to report household income while receiving Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits, resulting in an overpayment of $7,066.


The investigation was conducted in cooperation with the Wayne County Department of Social Services. Ramos was taken into custody and held at the Wayne County Jail pending CAPS arraignment.

The Sheriff’s Office emphasized the importance of maintaining integrity in public assistance programs to ensure resources are available for those who truly need them.
