New York State Electric & Gas (NYSEG) and Rochester Gas and Electric (RG&E) have invested more than $300 million in natural gas infrastructure improvements since 2023, replacing over 100 miles of main lines across their service areas.
Serving more than 664,000 natural gas customers across upstate New York, the companies say delivering this critical resource safely and reliably remains a top priority.
“Investing in our natural gas infrastructure and safety programs is a focus for Gas Operations at NYSEG and RG&E,” said Tom Scappaticci, senior director of Gas Operations. “The investments we make cover hundreds of projects that benefit our customers, including safety inspections of our assets, modernization of our stations, reliability efforts, and state mandates.”
The utilities maintain thousands of miles of gas transmission and distribution pipelines. Their ongoing safety efforts include regular inspections, modernization projects, and compliance with state and federal regulations. Programs to address leak-prone mains and educate the public on gas safety and underground digging are also part of the effort.
According to the companies, natural gas continues to be a safe and dependable energy source due to rigorous maintenance and monitoring standards. NYSEG and RG&E say their investment strategy reflects a long-term commitment to delivering reliable service to residential and business customers.
