Andrew Cuomo holds a clear advantage in the Democratic mayoral primary, crossing the 50% threshold to win in the fifth round of ranked-choice voting, according to a Marist College poll released Wednesday.
The former governor was the first-choice pick for 37% of voters. By the final round, he secured 53%, with Assemblyman Zohran Mamdani at 29% and City Comptroller Brad Lander at 18%. Lower-tier candidates were eliminated earlier in the count.
Mamdani, who earned an endorsement from liberal ex-Congressman Jamaal Bowman, framed himself as the true progressive alternative. Cuomo’s campaign touted his leadership record, while critics warned second-tier candidates must unite to block his path to victory before the June 24 primary.
