The Village of Trumansburg is exploring the purchase of a third ambulance for its EMS Department to address ongoing mechanical issues with one vehicle and improve response capacity. At a Nov. 12 meeting, village officials cited the need to reduce reliance on mutual aid, where other departments cover calls in Trumansburg’s service area due to ambulance shortages.
Deputy Mayor Ben Carver highlighted the strain caused by the lack of a fully functioning second ambulance, which has made handling simultaneous emergency calls challenging.
The board approved up to $50,000 from the EMS reserve fund to buy a new ambulance, with the potential to sell or keep the repaired vehicle. Mayor Rordan Hart supported retaining all three ambulances to meet rising EMS demands and prepare for future replacements.
