The Seneca Meadows Education Center is inviting the community to celebrate the arrival of winter with a “Solstice Fire” and pizza dinner on Friday, December 21, from 5 to 6:30 PM.
This family-friendly event will feature engaging activities to explore the Earth’s movements and their impact on the seasons, including a deeper understanding of the Winter Solstice, the shortest day of the year. As the event highlights, the solstice marks the turning point when daylight begins to increase until the Summer Solstice in June.
Along with the educational activities, attendees can enjoy observing planets, stars, and constellations if weather permits. A cozy fire will set the stage, and a pizza dinner will follow at 6 PM.
This free event, hosted at the Seneca Meadows Education Center on 1977 NYS Route 414, is open to all ages and groups. Advance registration is required by December 18 to ensure adequate pizza for all. Space is limited, so early sign-ups are encouraged at https://act.audubon.org/a/solstice-fire-and-pizza.
The program is sponsored by the Seneca Meadows Education Center and the Montezuma Audubon Center. Participants are reminded to dress warmly for the outdoor portions of the event.
