Sheriff Rob Milby has announced that the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office, in partnership with other local police agencies, will participate in the statewide STOP-DWI High Visibility Engagement Campaign for the Thanksgiving holiday. The campaign begins Wednesday, November 27, and runs through Sunday, December 1, aiming to keep roads and communities safe during one of the year’s busiest travel weekends.
“We know friends and families will be especially excited to gather around the Thanksgiving table this year,” Sheriff Milby said. “Unfortunately, drunk driving is a real threat to our community, and that threat increases during holidays like Thanksgiving. Driving drunk is deadly, and no one should ever take that risk.”
Research underscores the effectiveness of highly visible, publicized efforts like the STOP-DWI campaign in reducing impaired driving incidents. The Sheriff’s Office encourages residents to plan ahead and use tools such as the “Have a Plan” mobile app to find safe rides home. The app, available at www.stopdwi.org/mobileapp, provides a convenient way to ensure no one drives under the influence.
Impaired driving is entirely preventable with a little forethought. Sheriff Milby urges everyone to prioritize safety this Thanksgiving by designating a sober driver, using a ride-sharing service, or arranging alternative transportation.
By working together and making responsible choices, Wayne County residents can help make the holiday safer for everyone.
